Prevalence
Trisomy 18 occurs in about 1 out of every 2500 pregnancies in the United States, about 1 in 6000 babies survive after birth. The chances of having a child with Trisomy 18 increase as the mother gets older but a younger mother can still give birth to a child with this disorder. Girls with Edwards Syndrome have a higher chance of survival then boys with this disorder.
